Drones, drones, drones. There’s not a lot you can come up with to make them cooler than they already are. Military, civil or designed for science, these flying puppies get better and smarter by the day. That’s why we’d normally skip these gizmos and write about other stuff. But when we find a miniature Scout Trooper flying a Speederbike that even is capable of filming his way through the forest, things change.
The forest in question might not be the same forest of Endor where Scout Troopers are chasing Luke Skywalker, but that doesn’t mean we can’t imagine stuff. Heck it’s the weekend after all, we’re supposed to relax and have some fun in order to ease our stressed-out minds.
In fact, we should be thankful hobbyists like Adam Woodsworth exist on this planet. He, along with people with similar interests such as YouTuber Olivier_C who recently built a TIE fighter shortly after finishing a Millennium Falcon, make this world worth discovering. Drones suddenly become more than just propelled RCs that aviation enthusiast play with during their spare time.
Similar to what his fellows did, Woodsworth first found a 1999 Hsabro POTF Speederbike (you can still find them on sale on eBay by the way) and strapped its bits to a low-flying quadcopter. Like that wouldn’t have been a true delight already, he had to take things even further by installing a camera in the helmet so people get some proper first-person footage.
In case you’re wondering, there’s quite a good chance for you to replicate this puppy since Adam was kind enough to detail the whole process here. With the proper tools, about 50 bucks and a lot of patience, you’ll be flying through the woods, going all “Luke Skywalker” in no time.
