Standard Equipment for BMW i8 Leaked

The biggest question on everyone’s mind, right now, surrounding the imminent launch of the i8 is: what do you get for $136,000? At first, it looks like a pretty steep price tag but, looking over the standard kit and the performance the car returns, you might want to think again.

The i8 is made mostly out of the new Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (or CFRP for short), magnesium and aluminum, aiming to bring the weight as down as possible, to make sure the hybrid drivetrain will handle it in all instances. The result is a kerb weight of just under 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs).

The power comes from a total of 3 engines, 2 electric ones and an IC unit. Out of the 2 electric motors, one has an auxiliary function and doesn’t actually chip in on the total HP of the car and the other is coming straight out of the i3 and makes 131 HP and 250 Nm of torque, being hooked up to a 2-stage gearbox.

The internal combustion is delivered by a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder B38 engine that makes 231 HP and 320 Nm of torque sent to an automatic 6-speed gearbox developed exclusively for the i8. Together, the combined power reaches 320 HP and 570 Nm of torque.

While it might seem a bit underpowered at first the i8, thanks to its lightweight and aerodynamics, manages to pull the 100 km/h dash in just 4.5 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Add the all-wheel-drive to the mix and you get one heck of a fun car.

Apart from all these technological marvels, it looks like the car will also be getting quite a lot of standard kit, to match the impressive price tag it will start at, according to a leaked brochure.

Standard equipment will consist of:
  • Professional Navigation
  • Harman Kardon Sound System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Adaptive LED Headlights
  • Alarm System
  • Display Key
  • eCall and BMW i Services
  • Electronic Dim/Folding mirrors
  • Park Distance Control
  • Storage Package
  • Lights Package
  • Surround View Cameras
  • High Beam Assist
  • Collision Mitigation
  • Pedestrian Protection
  • Speed Limit Info
  • Head-Up Display
  • Real-Time Traffic Info
  • Bluetooth Connectivity (and USB devices)
  • BMW Apps
  • BMW Remote Services
  • Concierge Services.

Of course, a lot of people will also want to customize their car. In this regard, the i8 will be available in two Worlds of options, similar to the i3. The cheapest will be the Giga World model that includes Extended Leather and Dark or Light leather and headliner, in any combination. The top of the range Tera World will get you olive tanned leather, anthracite headliner and blue seat belts.

Basically, the car will find it pretty hard to go over $150,000, with all the available optionals installed. That makes it very competitive in its segment, not to mention the only hybrid alternative in this price range.
