Currently owned by Indian carmaker Mahindra, South Korean car brand SsangYong is almost ready to release its first all-new model in ages. Known as the X100, this model will slot below the Korando SUV.
What do we know about the X100 up to this point? Well, we know it's styling cues are inspired by the SsangYong XLV Concept, while the XIV-Air and XIV-Adventure concepts have been described by the manufacturer as being "near production ready concepts of the soon to be launched X100." The XIVs have been teased by SsangYong a few days ago, with the two slated to make their public debut in early October at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Basically a B-segment crossover such as the Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade, Renault Captur or Nissan Juke, the 2015 SsangYong X100 is expected to be unveiled by year's end of early next year. Size-wise, the X100 won't go beyond 4,195 mm in length and 2,600 mm in wheelbase. As for powertrain options, SsangYong confirmed that a 1.6-liter petrol and a 1.6L diesel are currently in development, both engines being Euro 6 compliant. A six-speed manual and a CVT box borrowed from Mahindra are our best bets in terms of transmission options. We also believe the new model is riding on an all-new platform.
In this latest set of spyshots, our carparazzi went to the Alps and spotted what looks like a finished product, not a prototype or test mule. Even though it's heavily camouflaged, some areas such as the taillights, headlamps, fog lights, mirror indicators and lower radiator grille can be thoroughly seen. Additionally, our spy photographers managed to snap a pic of the interior, showing very cool cloth seats that remind us of modern Citroen seats. It's not what we'd call a dream car, but still, the X100 is shaping up to be a pretty interesting vehicle in the ultra competitive world of B-segment crossovers.
