The SsangYong range will be enhanced this year with an extended version of the Tivoli, which will be called XLV. The model is a compact SUV with a lengthened body from behind the C-pillar.

The new version is longer by 235 millimeters when compared to the standard Tivoli, and brings a load capacity of 720 cubic liters. The wheelbase of the vehicle remains unchanged at 2,600 millimeters, and so does the technical platform.

The extended version of the Tivoli was developed after the XLV Air concept was shown at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The company has received “extremely favorable feedback,” and has decided to put the car into production. Following this decision, the Asian brand will discover if the people who liked the concept car will buy it.

The second exhibit at the Ssangyong stand at this year’s Geneva Motor Show will be the SIV-2 Concept. In the case of this model, SIV is an acronym for Smart Interface Vehicle, and the car is described as a midsize premium SUV concept.

The SIV-2 is a follow-up to the SIV-1 concept, shown at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, and presents an evolution of the design concept of “Dynamic Motion.” The latest concept car from SsangYong relies on the brand’s development theme and pursues the emotional link between driver and vehicle.

In the future, the SIV-2’s production derivative will become a “key strategic model within the SsangYong range.” The concept of the SIV-2 features a mild hybrid configuration. The car is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that features direct injection and turbocharging. The internal combustion unit is aided by a 10kW electric motor that also works as a generator. The latter is powered by and recharges a 500Wh lithium-ion battery.

SsangYong’s mild-hybrid setup works in a 48V system, and it’s meant for quiet and efficient driving. The company’s engineers will be inspired by this system for their future production hybrid cars.
