SSangYong Goes Electric with Mean-Looking KEV2 Concept

The master of South Korean SUV building is back! Present at the Geneva Auto Show at the beginning of March without shocking anyone with the concepts and models shown there, SsangYong is now playing for the win, having the advantage of the home turf.

In Seoul, at the local auto show which opened its door for the press on Thursday, SsangYong is presenting a glimpse of its future: an electric SUV, tucked in a body that has come a long way from the design language that has made the brand so distinguishable.

In fact, the KEV2 is not an SUV per se, but a crossover, the first in the SsangYong stable. Based on the Korando C and expected to preview the future Korando, the KEV2 is, if you like, the first real product that has come from SsangYong since Indian manufacturer Mahindra took over.

Back to the concept itself, the KEV2 lacks for now any specific details and performance figures. All that the world knows is what the world sees: a fluid, yet bulky crossover, with a front end you'll not forget easily and packed with all the latest advancements in infotainment and comfort.

News of the production of an EV version of the Korando has been around ever since the Geneva event. Thanks to those rumors, we can envision a production version EV that uses a 160 horsepower electric motor which draws its power from a 35Kw lithium-ion battery pack. The range of the model is expected to sit at around 110 miles (177 km), with the top speed being rated at 93 mph ((150 km/h).
