Volvo has jacked up the brand new architecture from the V40 to create the XC40, a subcompact crossover with Swedish reasonableness and styling. The car has been caught by out photographers as it was undergoing testing in Europe, ahead of its expected debut at the Paris Motor Show in late September.
The has a sort of jacked-up hatchback look, with car-like bumpers front and back and a decent but not overpower ride height. The shape of the body remind us more of the BMW X1 than a Ford Kuga, which is amusing considering the V40 is actually believed to use Ford’s architecture.
The car should be available both with front and all-wheel drive, in combination with manual and automatic gearboxes. As for the engine range, this will likely be carried over from the V40, meaning the range will start with a 150 hp 4-cylinder and end with a 250 hp T5. The most frugal option, a 155 hp diesel, will likely also prove to be the most popular.
