Volvo is taking on the European C-segment with a brand new vehicle, a five-door version o the C30. But the vehicle won’t be called the C40 as it was previously indicated, instead being called the V40, a name shared with a wagon from a decade ago.
These latest spyshots reveal a prototype in the advanced stages of development. The car is being fine-tuned in winter conditions on a frozen lake in Scandinavia, ahead of its official debut only a month from now at the Geneva Motor Show. It will face stiff competition both on the market and at the show from the brand new Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf.
Nevertheless, the new V40 should be a great little hatch and a real threat for the German rivals, even though it won’t become a market leader by any means.
The engine range will be formed exclusively of turbocharged four-cylinder lumps, and of course there will also be the usual plug-in hybrid to wow us with its impressive mileage.
