Spyshots: SsangYong Chairman Facelift

SsangYong is working on a facelift for the Chairman W, with the company now performing the winter testing for the vehicle. We wanted to know more about this (we really don’t have a reason for that) so we sent our team of spy photographers to shoot the car in the snow.

What? Of course this is not about one of the company’s executives having a plastic surgery. The Chairman W is one of the South Korean’s company’s models. But let’s take some time to talk about it so we can make everything clear.

The SsangYong Chairman is, as its name suggests, a full size luxury saloon. The vehicle is pretty successful on its domestic market, especially if we are talking about its long wheelbase version, which is preferred by certain limo operators in South Korea. Back in 2008, the company introduced a new generation of the model. This received the Chairman W designation, in order to be differentiated from the older Chairman H, with both cars still being produced.

Like we said, SsangYong is preparing to launch a minor revamp for the premium sedan, with the changes targeting the front grille, bumpers, light clusters, as well as the boot lid.

The Chairman W is powered by a 5-liter V8 engine which uses Mercedes’ 7G-Tornic automatic gearbox and sends its power to the road via an all-wheel-drive system. As for its suspension, this uses an air setup with a rebound coil that helps minimize the NVH level.
