The Rolls-Royce Down is what happens when you take the sexiest, most luxurious coupe ever made in Britain and turn it into a convertible. That's right, this is the drop-top version of the Wraith, the car every rapper in America wants.
It will be shown at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September, and we have the latest spy photos that show what sort of design we should prepare for.

The prototype looks ready for production but is heavily covered by camouflage we sometimes see on BMW prototypes. Underneath the camouflage will be a body that's identical to its coupe sibling. Obviously, the major difference is the appearance of a large fabric roof that still flows with the long lines of the car.

Considering the unladen weight of the Wraith is about 2.4 tons, we expect the convertible will tip the scales at around 2.5 tons. That's significantly more than any adult male rhino.

Still, it won't be slow. Press the accelerator pedal and you gain access to a massive 630 hp power reserve delivered by the 6.6-liter V12 engine. Combine that with 591 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque and you begin to understand why this car will be able to reach 100 km/h in around 4.6 seconds. The Spirit of Ecstasy had better hold on tight!

Rolls-Royce cars have always been designed to be enjoyed from the back seat. This one is different because it put the driver at the center of a unique driving experience. This is the sort of car you cannot explain with photos. Once you open those massive coach doors, you will be greeted by wood trim with grain angled at a precise 45 degrees. The carpet is so thick you can lose your silver cutlery in it, and the leather reminds you of your last stay in Monaco.

The engine and gearbox are borrowed from the Ghost baby model of the Rolls-Royce range. But we expect the dawn to cost significantly more at around £300,000. That's a lot, but you can't buy a convertible like this from any other manufacturer.
