Does Porsche plan to launch a supercar straight from the factory floor and onto the racing circuit? We don’t really know that, but a 918 pre-production car has been spotted going round the Nurburgring in the famous Martini racing team colors.
The supercar follows from where the 959 and the Carrera GT left off, but this time goes down the carbon-fiber path to save weight.
The 918 Spyder is a hybrid car, powered by 4.6-liter V8 engine and two electric motors. The first one delivers 107 hp, and sends its power to the front wheels, while the second one, which produces 121 hp is included in the gearbox assembly and motivates the rear axle. The system allows the driver to play with an overall output of over 770 hp.
All that power translates into a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time of under 3 seconds and a top speed of over 325 km/h (202 mph) as well as a Nurburgring lap time of under 7:22.
The Aventador might play the same game, but its V12 will never match the economy figures Porsche brags with: 3.0 liters per 100 km or 78.4 mpg.
