We really did think we were done with the Opel Astra Facelift, when these spy photos caught us by surprise. In March, the Astra made its camouflaged appearance in Scandinavia, and we concluded the changes would target the bumpers and the fog lights, but not much else. The grille seemed to be untouched, and when Opel announced the Astra family was complete, we thought that was that.
We really do thing Opel was content with what they had done to the Astra, since the 5-Door facelift revealed its secrets soon after that, by appearing totally undisguised on the road.
But it seems the designers or company execs didn’t think that was enough and are now redoing the grille on the Astra as well, at least on the GTC. This prototype has a much bigger mouth with extra gull-shaped bars. This is the look they are going for with the Insignia, which is why they’re also changing the compact.
The model seen in these photos is obviously the Bi-Turbo 2.0-liter diesel, but it would be unreasonable to expect any more power over the 195 PS.
