That which you call an Opel Astra by any other name would smell as sweet! We say that because rumor has it that the next Opel Astra Convertible won’t be called an Astra at all, though we haven’t heard any encouraging news of it being called a Bertone either.
Either way, the same platform as the Astra and Buick Verano sedan, and also by the upcoming OPC version of the Astra. But the Astra Cabrio probably won’t come with the same trick suspension, as the fact that it’s making a switch to a fabric roof means it’s targeting budget buyers. What's strange is that a Chevy concept basically looks just like this prototype, only it's a coupe. (check out these Tru 140S photos)
Whatever it may be called, this convertible model will enter production early next year, which means we can expect a preview concept or a full reveal in Paris, where the Astra facelift is also expected.
What you see here is actually just a silly test mule that is used by engineers to develop the architecture, chassis and powertrains. The full production model will have different doors and a flameless windows, plus seating for two extra passengers on a rear bench.
The Astra convertible is slated for production in Poland at the GM plant of Gliwice.
