2006. That's the year when Saddam Hussein was executed, and also the year when the Opel Antara was brand new. Needless to say, that makes it very old in automotive terms, which is why we were glad to see this next-gen test mule.
Of course, it also means new Chevrolet and Holden Captiva models are also on the way. Compact crossovers are very important for all of GM's brands, and should take high priority under the new investment plan.

Spotted in Northern Sweden, this test mule shows development is still in relatively early stages of development. The SUV isn't much to ooh at, but that's because it's hidden under the body of a Chevy Orlando minivan.

The last photo included in our photo gallery shows the undercarriage of the vehicle from the back. Drive shafts are clearly visible here, so the model is fitted with 4x4, which isn't available on the Orlando.

The new Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva have long been rumored to be based on GM's new D2XX modular platform that has already been put to good use by 2015 Chevrolet Cruze prototypes.

We could be looking at a two-year wait before the new SUVs actually go on sale. Hopefully, there's an Opel brand around at that time.
