You could say the Mercedes has developed a bit of an obsession with car design. This is evident in the estates, once purely functional cars that now have to be dolled up and called "shooting brakes". Thicker rear pillars and sloping rooflines make for a sexy first impression, but also mean reduced cargo space and impeded rear visibility.
The current C-Class Estate/T-model is getting replaced with a brand new model next year and we have photos of the car taken before its reveal. As you can see, shooting brake lines have been added to the side profile to give a fake look of sportiness. The current S204 model has taillights on either side of the boot lid opening, but this new model adopts a wider design that's split in two by the opening.

Other visible changes include two character lines down the side instead of just one which converge towards each other but never touch. This elegant feature is an obvious reference to the W222 S-Class, the flagship Mercedes model that debuted this design.
