Spyshots: New Volkswagen Touran / Crosstouran

In 2003, Volkswagen decided it needed to fill the gap in the market between the normal cars and MPVs it offered and the Sharan large MPV. So they took the platform from a Golf Mk5 and stretched it and made it taller.

In Aug 2010 the Touran was updated to the newer Golf VI platform. This brought about a new look for the vehicle. With this generation, VW introduced Light-Assist for Xenon Headlights, an improved Park-Assist System and the optional DCC adaptive suspension.

Now, the Touran is getting ready for another platform change, to the MQB of the Golf VII, meaning it’s also going to be lighter. A prototype was recently spotted going round the Nurburgring wearing a new front end with different headlights and bumper.

This is only a test mule, which reveals the fact that the next Touran will have a wider track and will be longer. The test car has a few centimeters of extra length added to it between the doors, at the B-pillar.

We should begin to see the new Touran in its full-boddied prototype form next year ahead of its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
