Spyshots: New Suzuki Jimny Looks Like a Tiny Mercedes-Benz G-Class

It was 1997 when Suzuki introduced the current Jimny and the time has now come for the fourth-generation model to show its face. We can now show you the spyshots of the new Jimny and the news is positive.

Given a number of details, such as the squared roof and the rounded taillights, you'd be forgiven for mistaking this prototype for a miniature Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Nevertheless, once the heavy camo covering this early test car will be removed, we're expecting the styling cues of the Jimny to set the car apart from the Gelandewagen, be it the outgoing or the all-new 2018 model, which we recently spied wearing its production lights.

Even so, we can't help but point out that the current Suzuki Vitara, a brilliant proposal within its segment, does partially remind one of the Range Rover Evoque's design.

As for the good news we mentioned in the intro, the Japanese automotive producer has let it slip that the Jimny will maintain its offroading appetite.

To be more precise, the small SUV is set to become one of the few new cars that feature a body-on-frame construction - America's workhorses don't count here.

Speaking of rugged terrain abilities, we'll mention that Suzuki's ALLGRIP PRO all-wheel-drive system will ensure that traction is always an asset.

Motivation should come from either a 0.66-liter turbocharged, a 1.0-liter turbocharged or a 1.2-liter turbocharged naturally aspirated mill. Nevertheless, the engine options will obviously depend on the market the SUV is offered on.

Nevertheless, with customers now being more demanding than ever, the greatest challenge for Suzuki engineers is to come up with a formula that's refined enough for a pleasant daily use.

Suzuki could introduce a concept incarnation of the new Jimny at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October. Meanwhile, here's a review of the outgoing Jimny, which remains showroom material for now.
