Things never stay still at BMW, do they. From a company that only made a few coupe and sedan models, they have a wide range that only gets bigger by the day. But BMW wouldn't be BMW without its core models, which perhaps demand the most attention.
You can't get much more "core" than the 5 Series. The current generation was among the first to feature the new, more grown up look. It received several engine updates and most recently a fecelift. Yet a replacement is inevitable, and this prototype previews the 2016 model, the sedan and estate.
Their platform will most likely be shared with the new G11 7 Series and will use CFRP, which BMW has learned how to mass produce, thanks to the i models. This, plus the fact that it could have a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine means this could be like no other mid-size executive car they've ever made before.
The test prototypes are still in their early days and have no real headlights or rocker panels. They do, however, have that imposing feel characteristic of any BMW.
