At the New York Auto Show, MINI officially confirmed that they were indeed working on a new John Cooper Works GP hot hatch, a stripped out road rocket based on their three-door model.
We consider it to be the Cooper’s swan song, seeing as a new generation is coming soon. But it was only the beginning, as an uber-hot version of the coupe is coming as well, and we’re holding our fingers crossed for a Countryman.
This Coupe JCW prototype recently spotted by our spy photographers is actually wearing most but not all the of the performance parts seen on the GP hatchback test cars.
These changes over the JCW include a new front bumper with a deeper spoiler, a new diffuser tail that accentuates twin exhaust pipes coming out of the center, sports brakes and a new set of four-spoke alloy wheels.
This car is going to have as much as 230 horsepower and will empty your bank account due to its high price tag. Expect production to be limited to just 2,000 examples.
