According to the latest rumors, the Mercedes SLS AMG production is set to end in 2014. Don’t worry though, the AMG engineers will probably never stand a year without working on some car that’s developed by them from the ground up and now they’ve got the SLC / GT on their hands.
Our spy photographers have recently caught the “baby SLS”, or C190, to use more elevated language, during a testing session. Don’t let yourself fooled by all that camo, the rear end of the production car won’t look like a melange between a Merc and some Aston.
The Mercedes SLC / GT will be slotted under the SLS. While the SL is a Grand Tourer, this will be a sports car that will go against rivals like the upcoming Jaguar F-Type Coupe and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. It could also aim for the Porsche 911, but not entirely, since the Mercedes will most likely only have two seats - by the way, we can’t help but notice how Mercedes refuses to build four-seater sports cars.
Customers will be able to choose between a variety of powerplants, with the entry-level engine being the twin-turbo V6 that was recently introduced on the Mercedes E400, albeit in a different state of tune. The firepower is expected to climb all the way up to 600 HP for the Black Series version, so fans of extra muscle shouldn’t be worried.
