Mercedes AMG work with bespoke super sportscars can be compared to literature in a way. Going from the magical buy expensive SLR to the SLS and now this car, it's like they are trying to write a bestseller. The SLR is like the Encyclopaedia Britannica, while the SLS is one of Dostoyevsky books.
The AMG GT, codenamed C190, is their attempt at a mainstream piece of fiction, something that can thrill lots more people by being less expensive. It's designed to be a rival for the Porsche 911and is said to be the most beautiful Mercedes ever made. That's high praise coming from a company that hasn't designed "ugly" into any of its past cars.

We were only too excited to see fresh spyshots of the AMG GT sportscar in our email today, and we were even more excited to see the model's rear quarters. It seems that engineers are indeed working on at least two powertrains for the car. The previous prototype had a single exhaust pipe on either side. That was similar to the trapezoidal style of the SLK 350. Today's prototype has a quad exhaust system, with two pipes on either side, just like an E63 AMG.

Either these two cars have two different version of the same engine or one has a V6, we just don't know yet. But the twin-turbo 4.0-liter M178 engine is a certainty.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
