While the Lamborghini Aventador SV was being presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, his drop top brother - the Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster - had to face the harshness of winter and endure snow testing with carparazzi on its trail.
Knowing Lamborghini’s soft spot for special editions, news that the Aventador SuperVeloce Roadster might be on its way seem very plausible. The spyshots give away the car’s identity because we can see the aggressive rear diffuser, extra vents in the rear bumper and the diabolical quad-pipe exhaust tips. At a first glance, the rollover protection looks similar to that on the stock Aventador Roadster, but there’s more.
For example, the engine cover appears to be different, so Lamborghini might be cooking up something here and the rear wing has been dropped. Now, even if it’s under heavy camouflage, the spied prototype still looks like an extreme car and we know that Lambo is only giving the SV title to such particular models, so that’s another hint that the Aventador SV Roadster is a real thing.
Coming back to the Aventador SV and its Geneva debut, we learn that it is using the “more power less weight” motto. In this respect, the 6.5-liter atmospheric V12 engine is good for 750 HP and 690 Nm (508 lb-ft) and there’s a high chance that the SV cabrio will get that kind of treatment as well. The Aventador SV is 50 kg lighter than the standard Aventador, but the Roadster will need a reinforced body so weight is bound to go up but not by much, we hope.
If this turns out to be true, the Aventador SV Roadster will still be able to shoot from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of over 350 km/h (217 mph). We’ll just have to wait and see on this one, but we’re pretty sure more revealing spyshots will surface in the coming weeks.
