Almost two years before the first MINI Countryman rolled off the assembly line in Graz, the Korean realized people wanted other kinds of lifestyle vehicles that were somewhere between hatchbacks and crossovers.
The Kia Soul entered production in 2008 and proved quite popular, especially in America where its sales come second only to the Optima. Now that the rest of the Kia range of models has been updated with fresh styling, the Soul is trying its best to put on a more modern appearance.
We’ve seen this 2014 model year prototype before, but never been able to see what’s happening on the inside. Changes there are so profound, you could say you’re looking at a brand new car.
The design of the dash, console, steering wheel and door cars is brand new, in line with what we saw on the Track’ster Concept. The fact that this has got black leather seats with contrasting stitching leads us to believe this might be a sport model similar to the cee’d GT and equipped with the same turbo 1.6 engine.
The Soul has always been available with an LCD screen on higher trim models, but this is the much bigger system that integrates Kia’s latest UVO tech.
