Jaguar's ambitious plans for the future are coming to fruition, as demand for their cool cats is picking up. However, their most crucial car has to be the new baby Jag, a compact saloon that will take on BMW's 3 Series and all of the other compact executives out there.
We've known about this car for well over a year now, eagerly expecting its arrival onto the world of cool automobiles. Jaguar's top boss says this car, expected to be called the XS, will dictate the pace of their future design, but we can't actually preview what's going to happen because this is just a test mule wearing the body of an XF.

Jaguar has always been good at making very powerful cars, their 4.2-liter and 5-liter supercharged engines being renowned. We were literally blown away by the tremendous pulling power of the XKR for example, but this is not the main focus of the XS. Jaguar will focus all of its latest fuel-saving technology into the car to make it more frugal than pretty much anything else in its class.

A key part in this scheme is played by cutting-edge lightweight aluminium construction, but also by the 2.2-liter diesel engine and the brand new 9-speed automatic transmission announced by Land Rover and developed by ZF.

Adrian Hallmark has suggested this entry-level sedan will expand into a whole range of models, possibly containing coupe, cabrio and estate versions.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
