Did you know that ix35 flipped upside down spells sexi? Presented in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Hyundai's compact SUV became a smash hit, thanks to its new "fluidic sculpture" design language.
Its sleek but muscular design spelled the arrival of a new Hyundai brand, and this was clearly reflected in the sales charts. After all, who wouldn't want the first Hyundai with a panoramic sunroof?

But the years have past and the 'sexi' isn't ally that any more. Thus a facelift is needed to stay competitive with its rivals, especially the Kia Sportage, which even though is based on the same platform, looks far more aggressive and edgy.

These are the latest spyshots of the ix35 facelift model as it was undergoing testing at their center in Germany, located near Hyundai's European headquarters.

Because of the heavy camo, it's impossible to tell what changes have been made, but we can expect something along the lines of the i30, with more pronounced contours and LED accenting. Inside, there don't seem to be any big changes, though this could just be an early prototype.

As for the engine range, the European model could benefit from the 1.6 turbo GDI used by the Veloster Turbo, while the US model Tucson will surely have updated GDI 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter engines with more power and better economy.
