The batch of spyshots you're about to see takes us back to Shanghai 2015, where Honda unveiled the Concept D, a prototype bound to turn into a crossover dedicated exclusively to the Chinese market.
That's right, the prototype wasn't presented in Shanghai just for the show, and it seems Honda doesn't want to waste precious time with the development of a derived production version.
The Japanese carmaker selected European roads as their testing ground for the crossover, and as usual, our carparazzi have been on the prowl and sent in the photos we were telling you about.
From what we can see, the test mule looks similar to the Concept D, but even with that camo foil we can tell the design cues have been severely toned down compared to what we encountered in Shanghai.
The front and combines styling cues taken from both Acura and Honda models, while the SUV will be slotted above the Honda CR-V in the brand's lineup. Despite the heavy camouflage, we can see the SUV has a long wheelbase and a high window line, coupled with a sloping roof and flat-angle rear windows.
Truth be told, we are going to miss the concept's front end, dominated by the wing-like design of the metallic grille and framed by the boomerang-shaped LED lights guarding the massive air intakes.
Back in April, Honda officials told us the SUV will make a statement regarding high-quality driving and a spacious cabin. Moreover, the Concept D was supposedly equipped with "advanced safety technologies and other advanced features", as Honda wants to make this model their flagship SUV in China.
So far, there's no word on what kind of powertrain will the production version embrace, but since it's Honda we're talking about, we should expect a hybrid setup, besides the traditional internal combustion engine choice.
