Spyshots: Ferrari Enzo Successor

Ferrari has shown us that if a company wants to keep its test cars secret, it can, as we have been writing about a replacement for the Enzo for quite a while, but this is the first time when we can show you a series of spyshots.

The photos were snapped in Germany, where the Prancing Horse was out testing its future range-topper on a secret track. The vehicle was fully loaded with plastic cladding that hides various elements, such as the car’s rear wing. The only element that’s new and visible is the wheel design, which hasn’t been used on any other Ferrari model so far.

Enzo had an ego that was larger than Maranello, so Ferrari just can’t allow the Enzo to be anything short of exceptional. Thus, the vehicle is expected to offer a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of under 2.5 seconds (take that Veyron!) and a top speed that exceeds 254 mph (408 km/h).

These amazing specs will be achieved by using both a dazzling powertrain and keeping the weight down. The latter process will rely on a mixture of carbon fiber and aluminum (Ferrari usually prefers the latter), which should allow the car to tip the scales at the same point as the FXX track animal - 2,550 lbs (1,157 kg).

The vehicle is expected to offer an even more powerful version of the 6262cc V12 unit found on the FF and F12 Berlinetta and while on the latter the unit provides 740 hp, it will allows the Enzo II’s driver to play with 800 hp. And this is just a part of the story, as the Prancing Horse wants to offer an extra 120 hp by using a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) borrowed from Formula One.

The Enzo’s replacement, which uses the F70 internal name, is expected to be displayed for a select audience by the end of the year and have its official unveiling at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.
