Spyshots: Chevrolet Aveo / Sonic RS in Europe

The South Korean design division, responsible for cars like the Spark and Cruze, has done well for GM and the Chevrolet brand. The new Aveo has been selling well in Europe, due in part to its low price and the increased interior room it brings.

However, there’s a hotter version of the hatchback that the European market has been missing. We say hot, but actually it’s more like mildly warm.

The car known in the US as the Sonic RS has recently been spotted with no disguise on European roads, indicating an Aveo version.

It will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter Ecotec engine with 140 horsepower. This will likely be mated exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Changes over the regular Aveo will include four-wheel disk brakes as standard, a full body kit, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a lowered and stiffened suspension by MacPherson with performance-tuned dampers. Don’t expect 0 to 100 km/h times of under 8 seconds though.
