It seems like BMW really wants to make an impact on some key markets with its new i brand, as the new i8 was recently caught testing on Chinese roads, probably looking for unexpected issues to come up.
Even though it’s not wearing any kind of camouflage, the car is obviously testing the city streets of Beijing, as it wasn’t yet released for the public in the communist country. Another clue is the red, emergency button on the center console, near the iDrive controller, a typical feature for test cars. Usually, this device is used in case something goes terribly wrong, deactivating every electrical device onboard to avoid causing an explosion.
When BMW will finally release the new car in China, customers are expected to pour in, as the i8 offers unprecedented performance with minimal environment impact, a very sought-after quality over in Asia these days. With 362 HP and 570 Nm of torque, a 4.4 second time to 62 mph and CO2 emissions well under 100 g/km it’s easy to see why.
