The direction in which BMW is heading seems to be pretty clear by now. They decided to make all Coupes wear a even number on their boot. That's why the 4 Series came out, next to the 6 series and will be joined by the 2 Series later on.
Furthermore, it seems like there's a market for 4-door coupes so the Gran Coupe madness will continue. The 4 Series will join in this niche, with the 4 Series Gran Coupe model, a car that will most likely make its debut next year.

We've seen it in previous spyshots but now, we have a brand new set with the interior of the car, a first as far as we know. So, remember you saw the 4 Series Gran Coupe's interior here for the first time.

From the looks of it, most of the interior design cues are the same as in the regular 4 Series Coupe. Sure, we only have 2 photos of it right now but fortunately for us, the prototype they were testing used little to no camouflage.

From what we could spot, the car was fitted with the iDrive Touch system (as it was expected) and a manual gearbox, a refreshing piece of news, especially for those scared that this kind of transmission will disappear. However, we do expect the automatic 8-speed to be the top seller on this car, especially for the comfort it brings.

On the outside, the front fascia is basically the same as on the Coupe whilst on the back is looks rather like a wider and lower 3 Series with a big of a hunch thanks to the big tailgate.

The engines will used on the new 4 Series Gran Coupe will probably be the same as on the Coupe. At first we'll be seeing the 428i and 435i models show up, just to be joined by 420d, 430d, 420i and 435d models. In light of recent events, we might even see a hybrid model.

PS: It's really admirable the way the poor driver is trying to cover the dash from the spy photographers with his hand. Poor guy...
