These are the latest spyshots of the upcoming coupe and convertible version of the new BMW 3-Series rumoured to be renamed the 4-Series. Both are based on the current generation 3-Series sedan’s architecture, meaning a longer wheelbase and a wider track.
It’s rumored that the marketing move to turn the 4er to a 3er will result in a change of styling, much like the 5-Series and 6-Sereis are different. A four-door coupe version will also be built for the 4-Series range as the Gran Coupe.
Both cars are currently undergoing road and track testing on and near the Nurburgring. The prototypes should take shape more as time progresses, seeing as the current 3-Series coupe will exit production at the end of the year.
There are no new engines on the table that you haven’t heard about, but the BMW two-doors will be evolutionary not revolutionary.
The handling will be a little bit better, the consumption a little bit more frugal and better planted on the road. But fans will surely notice that the perfection BMW is targeting has made their cars slightly disconnected through electronic steering and other numbing features.
