BMW's new 1 Series hatchback has very limited appeal. Despite looking like your regular family hatch from the outside, it's rear-wheel drive, which increase costs and reduces interior space. The F20 chassis that was developed for it has, however, proven extremely competent and will serve another car quite well.
We are, of course, talking about the 2 Series, a brand new take on a familiar idea, the 1 Series Coupe. Expected to see the new family of BMWs making its debut in early 2014. Built on the F20 platform, the new 1 Series Coupe will move up in style and be sold under the 2 Series badge.
Some of the design elements will of course be shared, but the model will look more like a baby 3 Series than a 1er with a boot.
Fresh spyshots taken at a gas station near the Nurburgring reveal the 2 Series Coupe is a bit special inside as well. It's got a new, rather sporty steering wheel with very nice chrome trim.
