Audi's R8 e-tron project was taken for dead a few months ago when reports started surfacing that the project being canceled, citing expensive batteries and lack of power as two possible reasons.
There might have been some credibility to the story, but discontinued or now, development of the car is back on track and has been spotted by our spy photographers. Winter testing is still underway, as the spyshots were taken outside of Arvidsjaur in Northern Sweden.
Earlier today, we showed you the R8 e-tron has been testing in Spain, thank to car spotter Willy Lillo.
Cosmetically, the car was always ready for production, and there's not a single drop of camouflage on it. What could change is the all-electric drivetrain, which is currently rated at half what Mercedes' SLS AMG E-CELL offers.
With a price tag way above that of the regular R8 and only 133 miles of battery range, not a lot of people will place a deposit on the R8 electric supercar. But you have to command Audi for stepping outside the box and potentially creating a small new niche for itself.
