Ever wondered what an Audi version of the Skoda Octavia or VW Jetta look like? Well now, there's an answer, as for the first time the Lord of the Rings is making an affordable saloon.
We are of course talking about the new Audi A3 sedan, the first model of its kind offered by the carmaker. It's built on the same MQB as the three- and five-door versions of the new A3. However, it's got a third box (boot). The idea behind putting a boot on the A3 is that it will thus appeal more to customers in the US and China.
We originally expected the A3 sedan to be sold in the US this year, but not one prototype has yet been spotted there. When it does make it across the pond, it will be offed with a new 2.0 TSI engine and the 2.0 TDI from about just under $30,000. There should also be an S3 Sedan, powered by a 300 horsepower turbo 2.0-liter.
This A3 promises to be one of the most important models for Audi's sales figures. Mercedes has already revealed its small sedan, the CLA. However, that's shaping up to be a bit more expensive and is also quite big, bigger even than a C-Class. BMW is also working on a FWD sedan for the American market, though that won't be ready for another three years or so.
