The all-new Renault Laguna sedan is going to be revealed during the summer or 2015 and should enter into production towards the end of the year. It will become larger, replacing the Latitude in the process, but you won't have to wait that long to see what's going on.
Our spies stationed in Southern Europe have been following the progress made by Renault engineers and even managed to capture the first photos of the interior.
You guys are looking at two slightly different prototypes. One has an entirely built-up interior, and its dash is mostly covered, the other is made up of older parts and has its console visible. In this case, we can see that a vertical R-Link touchscreen, like the one in the 2015 Espace, has been installed. The production version will probably be mounted differently, but should be just as large.
There are a number of interesting bits and pieces seen in this new Renault flagship interior. For example, they used brown stitching for the black leather seats and the dashboard. Wood trim is also visible on the sides of the console and top of the dash.
Also new are the shifter for the EDC automatic gearbox and the round controller for the navigation/infotainment sitting behind it.
The new Laguna is going to be based on the same platform as the Espace, also shared by a number of Nissan models (mostly crossovers). We believe the engine range will be made up almost entirely of 1.6-liter blocks at launch. There should be two different 1.6-liter dCi diesels, one producing 130 PS and another with twin turbocharging delivering 160 PS. Both are going to be available with a 6-speed twin-clutch gearbox. A 200 horsepower TCe petrol turbo like the one featured on the Clio RS will also be available.
Our sources tell us the prototype with Fluence interior components is actually testing some kind of new drive assistance system, which Renault plans to debut on the Laguna. We'll know more around July, when the reveal will take place.
