Back in 2012 the first spyshots of the first 5-door hatch from MINI started surfacing the web and the car was kept in secret locations, well hidden from prying eyes until now.
It seems like the launch of the 2014 MINI Cooper gave the engineers from Germany the green light to start testing the 5-door version on public roads.

With this new model, the MINI range will gain another version of the Cooper with plenty of space in the back, next to the Countryman and the Clubman that are offering more than enough already.

As for the engines, we’re pretty sure they’ll remain the same as on the 3-door hatch, focusing around the new B38 1.5-liter 3-cylinder family and the new 2-liter units.

Judging by the rear bumper and the air intake slotted in the bonnet the prototype caught in these shots seems to be a Cooper S model and that means it’s using the 2-liter 4-cylinder engine with 192 HP and 280 Nm (300 with overboost) of torque.

The release is expected somewhere towards the end of 2014.
