The new UKL platform used for the Mk3 MINI Cooper models will be used for a wide array of models, some claiming up to 45 models on both German and British sides, including a 5-door Hardtop.
One such prototype was just spotted on an airport in Munich, camo free up front and heavily covered in the back, to protect the rear extra doors. Despite the company’s hardest efforts, you can easily see the differences.

Going for a 5-door version means MINI is aiming to make the hardtop more popular, even amongst people with families, while also keeping the size of the car in check.

Inside there are little to no changes visible. Up front, things are basically the same, whilst in the back, the only noticeable differences come from the added doors.

As for the engines, expect the exact same line-up. Judging by the front bumper and the rear diffuser, the car we’re looking at here is a Cooper S model, which means it has a 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet, making 192 HP and 300 Nm of torque.

Other engines will include 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol and diesel units for the regular Cooper and a 1.2-liter unit for the One version. Sales start next month.
