BMW is keeping North American aficionados busy, since the automaker has recently introduced the 8 Series concept to the US via the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. However, over in Europe, the testing for the big coupe continues, with the latest spyshots of the Grand Tourer revealing the production lights.
While both the front and the rear light clusters are now here in their final form, the camo covering the test car allows us to zoom in on the laser headlights, while the most of the taillights' surface is still covered.
Speaking of which, you shouldn't allow all the camo to trick you into believing the 8 Series will pack the rather tame appearance of the now-old 6 Series.
Instead, the production version of the 8er is expected to retain quite a lot of the concept's bewildering appearance.
As for the firepower, we can expect a complete engine lineup and that's because BMW has trademarked a long list of 8xx nameplates, including the 825, 835, 850, 845, 860, as well as the M850.
Those who will adorn their driveways with a 2018 BMW 8 Series can also brag about the racing activities of the machine - we're talking about the M8 GTE racecar, which is scheduled to make its debut at the 24 Hours of Dayton next year. The circuit machine is set to take part in the global FIA World Endurance Championship and the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Returning to the street versions of the newcomer, the Bavarian automaker is set to release the 8 Series next year, with the fixed-roof model spied here being joined by a Cabriolet. From that point on, M Division aficionados will have to wait up to a year in order to meet the M8, alog with the M8 Convertible.
Speaking of which, we'll remind you that we brought you the first spyshots of the M8 Convertible earlier today.
