Spyshots: 2018 Audi A1 With S Line Body Kit Previews S1 Version

Our spies were able to get extremely close to the all-new Audi A1 today, revealing much of the supermini's design. The smallest Audi appears to have similar features to the RS5, so it's probably wearing the S Line body kit.

We say "probably" because the current A1 has multiple looks. For example, there's the Active Style Pack, but there's no point in getting those ready for the 2018 launch.

The body kit is quite a bold one, featuring large inserts on that imitate the look of side air intakes and a hexagonal grille that appears to have an oversized frame connecting to the headlights. But just like the Polo R-Line, this model has no visible exhaust pipes.

We don't particularly like the thought of spending around €25,000 on a small Audi with no visible mufflers, but Audi has been doing this kind of design on several cars since the Q7 because it's better for streamlining.

Eventually, there will be a new S1 model with, rumors suggest, as much as 250 horsepower. But the majority of A1 models will be powered by similar engines to the ones in the new Polo and Ibiza.

The most affordable option will be the 1.0 TFSI with 95 HP or even less. Naturally, the 1.5 TSI will be offered, and there should be a 2.0 TSI with 190 or 200 HP. Diesel engines will be available at launch, but they might be phased out eventually.

The most efficient A1 model, worthy of the ultra badge, will use TFSI technology, smart coasting, and a mild hybrid system to sip around 4 l/100km.

The interior should be similar to the funky Q2 crossover, featuring a digital dashboard and a few bright colors dotted around the cabin. The new MQB A0 platform will bring many benefits and should stretch the wheelbase to 2,560mm, 90 more than the current car. Trunk capacity will rise to between 300 and 350 liters, depending on the model.
