The second coming of the Porsche Panamera seems to be shaping up rather nicely, fixing many of the flaws which the German company never admitted to having, but which may have hurt sales. We have the first detailed spy images showing the all-new interior and what we see is definitely to our liking.
First of all the center console has been de-cluttered. It's usually a Porsche tradition to offer a fizical button for just about every function. In a well equipped vehicle, that can lead to around 20 little icons dotted around the gear selector and a whole heap of confusion. But the Panamera 2 will be different, more like a Mercedes S-Class with a cascading dash. As you can see, only a few toggle switches remain.
Behind that, we find not one but two extra-large cup holders, which have heating, cooling and accent lights. They might seem trivial, but we've seen 5-page forum posts about Porsche cup holders because apparently, the size of the drink you can place dictates how premium a vehicle is to American customers.
The steering wheels is similar to the one introduced in 2014 on the Cayenne facelift and features brushed metal finish and a sort of drilled design to project an airy feel.
Around the front, most of the bodywork remains untouched, but we may be looking at brand new full-LED headlights underneath that camouflage.
A multitude of new engines, all of them turbocharged, will be introduced by the next-gen Panamera. We expect big changes to take place in the diesel range and at least one if not two different hybrid models. Porsche has also hinted at a downsized powerplant for the Panamera Turbo, which may end up being used by Bentley's next models as well.
Rumor has it that a large chunk of weight, somewhere in excess of 91 kg (200 lbs), will be dropped. That might not seem like a lot when you're talking about a 2-ton car, but there are too many luxury features that can't be stripped away from the car

The exterior of the prototype continues to evolve
Even bigger changes are expected to take place on the outside.
