It goes without saying that the Insignia is a paramount model for Opel. Therefore, pre-production testing is being carried out as we write this, even though the car is slated to show up somewhere in 2017.
As we expected, the batch of photos shows a heavily camouflaged prototype, but that's only natural at this stage, where they're most likely working on the car's powertrain and chassis.
Now that we have another point of view on the car, it becomes even more apparent that the new Insignia - because we're talking about a whole new car - will adopt styling cues from the Monza concept, just like the new Opel Astra did, but on a more discrete note.
It's also worth mentioning that the Insignia was a drop of colour in its segment - where it fights the Skoda Superb and the VW Passat, at least regarding the design language adopted by Russelsheim.
But with the new generation, Opel will want to take their sedan to another level and their advantage is they have the means of achieving that, courtesy of the Monza concept we were telling you about.
Our sources also claim the that new Insignia will feature a wheelbase that's 10 cm longer compared to the ongoing generation. This means more room for those inside. Also, we expect the 2017 Opel Insignia to shed around 200 kilos off its hips.
In terms of safety, Opel should rely on a bundle of driver assistance systems similar to what the new Astra is offering, including the Opel Eye front camera, the Traffic Sign Assist feature and the Advanced Park Assist function.
Car-related info will be displayed on a large digital dashboard display like the one seen in the Monza prototype while the driver might have a heads-up display gizmo at his disposal.
However, don't expect the Insignia to feature the same 18-LED projectors screen as seen in the Monza, as this kind of equipment is on par with what the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has to offer.
