We've seen the all-new Audi TT-RS many times before. However, it's always been testing under the guise of a normal TTS. That's just changed, as new bumpers, wheels and an oversized twin exhaust system have been installed, suggesting the debut is close at hand.
We know what's under the bonnet, so let's review the cosmetic upgrades first. We'll start with the front bumper, featuring oversized air intakes and a new mesh grille. Audi has fitted standard xenon projectors, which is weird considering the TT-RS would need LED units to justify its price.

Keen-eyed readers might also notice that the tracks are ever so slightly wider. New side skirts have also been installed. But the bit we're interested in is at the back: large twin exhaust pipes with active butterfly valves.

A 2.5-liter TFSI turbo engine is undeniably under that black hood. It features the latest injection technology and could receive a modest upgrade from the 367 PS output of the RS3 hatchback. We don't know if that will be enough to compete with Mercedes-Benz's new 381 PS. Thankfully, Audi doesn't need to be worried about the Golf R400, since it's probably been canceled or delayed a few years.

One thing is for sure: the TT-RS will offer the kind of performance most people can only dream about. Thanks to its twin-clutch launch + AWD + launch control shenanigans, it should be able to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4 seconds and hit a top speed of 280 km/h (174.0 mph)… limited.

Among the numerous extra features of the RS model, we'd mention the Alcantara seats, superior brakes, lighter wheels, optional adaptive suspension and even carbon fiber trim. In most regards, the TT-RS will be like a pint-sized RS7. But don't think for a second that it will be half the price of its big brother. Expect to pay around €60,000 for one of these bad boys.

For that kind of cash, you could buy a Porsche Cayman, BMW M235i and maybe even an Alfa Romeo 4C. The ultimate track tool is also within reach, the Lotus Exige V6. However, the Audi TT-RS is not a track car; it's a daily weapon for the quattro fanatic. With the drive select mode in its softest setting, you could cruise the autobahn in comfort, knowing that the most powerful 2.5-liter engine in the world is at your disposal.
