The roofless version of the R8 supercar is ready to come out. Our spy photogs spotted this prototype that looks ready for mass production, thanks to an immaculate Vegas Yellow paintjob and black leather interior.
Last month, two more R8 Spyder models were seen testing in the Namibian desert. We figure that everything is linked to the process of creating the press photos and that the official debut will happen shortly.

According to a leaked internal document, we've discovered the roofless rocket will debut in early April. It will have the same two versions of the 5.2-liter V10 engine as the coupe. However, V6 models will follow in 2018.

There are a few changes here and there that differentiate the coupe from the Spyder model. For example, there's a new strip of black mesh grille between the taillights to help the V10 engine vent some steam. Obviously, the engine deck is also changed, and there's no glass cover to look through.

We think that we are looking at the standard 540 horsepower model with extra options, even though all the carbon parts are there. The big tell is the lack of a fixed carbon fiber rear wing. Of course, you are going to be able to buy one with just as much power as the Lamborghini Huracan (610 PS).

When all the options boxes are ticked, you could easily be looking at a quarter of a million euros, making this the most expensive Audi on the road. Of course, the 2017 version of the R8 Spyshots unashamedly calls itself a supercar now. The styling may not be as provocative as the Lambo, but the interior is classy and technologically advanced.

In some independent tests, the R8 was faster than the Huracan off the line. Audi has mastered launch control, and it will help the Spyder get to 100 km/h much faster than a Ferrari California T. It's also going to be the only convertible in the world with laser headlights.
