Spyshots: 2017 Audi A5 / S5 Interior Revealed

Two prototypes, one for the next Audi A5 and the other for the S5, hit the Nurburgring to take advantage of the last sunny days. Unfortunately for them, our spy photographers were on hand to snap their first shots of the all-new cabin.

The interior looks almost the same as on the all-new A4 sedan and wagon, which doesn't surprise us. However, there are a few subtle differences. For example, the climate control unit has three knobs instead of two, probably inspired by the smaller TT.

The gear shifter looks a little bit sportier and has been placed further forward, meaning the MMI control surface is behind it.

Some say Audi interiors are boring, but we'd like to think their function and quality have a higher priority than flair. These test vehicles are equipped with conventional speedometers, but you will be able to buy the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit system as an optional extra on the new A5. How's that for a party trick!

The complete technology package from the much larger Q7 will be available, including an advanced safety package that allows the car to drive itself down a highway.

On the engine front, we should see most of the powertrains from the A4 trickle down to the two-door model. These will include a 2-liter turbo engine available with two stages of tune and the latest 3.0 TDI delivering 218 or 272 PS. Even a quattro sports differential will be available.

The S5 model is believed to have the same supercharged V6 as it did before. It's one of the most advanced units of its kind in the world and will receive a power bump to around 350 PS transferred only through an automatic gearbox and quattro AWD.

While BMW's 4 Series is known for handling, the Audi A5 will focus on comfort and refinement. The cabin will be much quieter than before while up to four different suspension systems will be offered. Some will have conventional shocks, others will adapt to the road better than you can.
