Spyshots: 2017 Alfa Romeo MiTo Test Mule Spotted City Testing, Might Be a Facelift

It was only two weeks ago when someone came up with a rendering showing a potential new Alfa Romeo MiTo using styling cues from the Mazda2 and its bigger sister, the Giulia, but now we have spyshots with a MiTo test mule.

Don't get us wrong, we love seeing how designers imagine future models, but we also must pay attention to what happens in real life.

Our carparazzi have been on the lookout again, and they provided us a set of spyshots depicting what looks to be an upgraded Alfa Romeo MiTo.

The debate here is whether the MiTo will receive a new generation or a second facelift, but at this point, we incline to favour the latter variant. In case you forgot, Alfa Romeo granted MiTo with a facelift in late 2013.

What you'll see in the photo gallery is a MiTo test mule spotted for the first time in Italy, where the hatchback is currently undergoing in-the-city testing session. That's not a surprise because the urban jungle is where this car belongs, so engineers must be trying to fine-tune it for best behaviour on narrow streets, wide boulevards and other urban obstacles.

Despite being heavily wrapped in psychedelic camouflage covers, the test mule's front end looks like it has been granted a new front grille. That's all we can spot for now, but we have a hunch the front fascia will not be the only thing modified by Italian designers.

In theory, the hatchback could receive the same treatment at the back, with some minor retouches making their way inside the cabin, but we'll need more spyshots to confirm that.

It goes the same with engines: the facelifted MiTo will most likely receive the current powerplant lineup, with maybe one or two new units added to the mix, but it's better to wait for Alfa Romeo's official PR voice to provide more details.
