Jaguar is on a roll! After stunning the world with the F-Type roadster, they followed it up with a coupe version of the car and more recently with the 550 horsepower XKR-S Sportbrake, their fastest estate ever, capable of speeds in excess of 300 km/h.
But all these amazing Jags pale in importance when compared to this, their new volume car. Designed to rival the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, this British sedan is aimed at average buyers and company car fleets, delivering economy and low emissions in great impressive quantities.

This is the first time the XS has been seen with a production car body. The design is more XF than F-Type. The grille is round, the headlights wrap around to the fenders instead of going up to the roof pillars. Just like the new Mercedes C-Class, the roof doesn't curve that much at the back to maximize rear headroom.

The car is expected to enter production in 2015 as a 2016 model year, although it might be revealed towards the very end of this one. Jaguar Land Rover announced a brand new aluminum platform called iQ[Al] for their upcoming crossover, the two being expected to share it with three other models, which have yet to be announced. It's widely expected that, like the X-Type, the XS will also be available as an estate.

Just like in the case of the Evoque, the XS is likely to be offered only with four-cylinder engines. Jaguar has hinted that a new family of 4-banger turbos called "Hotfire" will be put into production in coming years. The transmission of choice is likely to be an eight-speed automatic from ZF.

Since BMW sells more 3 Series sedans than practically anything else, we can only presume that the XS will be the best selling Jaguar, maybe even of all time. Despite all their recent debuts, Jaguar sells fewer cars in Britain, its home market, than Audi, BMW or mercedes.
