Spyshots: 2016 Jaguar F-Pace Inches Closer to Production

The latest photos from Norther Sweden show the now famous Jaguar F-Pace in its late development stages. As the model inches closer to production, we get to see just how similar it will be to the C-X17 concept car which they showed on multiple occasions throughout 2013. The only major design change is the use of xenon projectors instead of LED clusters for the headlights.

Jaguar can probably be considered to be the last premium car company to arrive in the SUV/crossover game, which the Germans have been dominating for the past decade. But even though they have a lot of catching up to do, the fact that they have an expert in the family will help them tremendously. Land Rover also recently reshaped their SUV lineup around three major pillars, one of them being the Discovery line.

In many ways, the F-Pace is going to be like the new Land Rover Discovery Sport, being a direct rival to the BMW X3. Only this time, the engineers are going to focus more on the go-fast bits, as you can imagine for a car that's named after the F-Type.

Of course, you can buy an F-Type with AWD these days, in combination with both the V6 and the V8. However, the F-Pace will probably make due with a lot less than 380 hp. Hopefully, by the time the crossover is ready for production, work will be complete on the new family of Ingenium 2-liter turbo engines. There should also be at least one performance model, which is more than we can say about BMW's X3.

The F-Pace will ride on an aluminum platform, the same one that underpins the XE. It should measure somewhere around 4.7 meters in total length with up to 20 centimeters of ground clearance available. We've head lots of good things about the pre-production XE prototypes, so fingers crossed, Jaguar's fist crossover will be an excellent product.
