Chevy's next-generation Cruze sedan has been delayed until 2015, but test engineers are putting that time to good use and are developing one of the best cars in its class. Throughout last year, prototypes were seen at the Nurburgring and on German roads. However, now they've set up shop in Northern Sweden.
The latest spyshots show us a better view of the Cruze's updated taillight cluster, which has a hint of Malibu in it. The cluster appears squashed compared to the current model, which gives the car a keener look.
The new Cruze is going to be built on a brand new platform called the D2XX. It's derived from the current Delta II but used more modern steel alloys for reduced weight.
It's yet unknown what kind of engines will be offered, but rumors suggest the delay to is caused by problems created by new powertrains. With new CAFE regulations imminent and the Cruze being among GM's popular models, there's reason to believe a switch from 2.5-liter to 1.6-liter turbo is coming. Opel's 1.6 SIDI Turbo engine has long been rumored for a Chevrolet model and this could be it.
