MINI has just revealed the all-new, third generation of its phoenix car, the small hatchback that BMW started the brand revival with, over a decade ago. In quick succession, more cars are going to be revealed now, giving a new look for some of their less successful cars.
There will be a longer wheelbase 5-door version of the hatch, a new convertible and this, an MPV. Some older reports call this the Freeman but it's now believed to be a replacement for the Clubman.
Not only is the new Clubman bigger, but it's also got one extra door for a total of six. The only MINI without a rear hatch has side-hinged doors like a van, so take care when opening it in tight spaces.
A prototype spotted on german roads has lost some of its door camouflage, indicating a full reveal could be as little as a few months away, maybe at next year's Geneva Motor Show.
Engines and gearboxes will be shared with the MINI hatchback, including 1.5-liter petrol and diesel units for the Cooper and a 2.0-liter for the Cooper S. Because you're unlikely to find another B-segment MPV with a 2-liter turbo engine, retro looks and six doors, the Clubman might finally become the success story MINI wanted it to be from the beginning.
