Spyshots: 2015 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Facelift

The A-Class was the second model Mercedes launched on its new front-wheel drive platform, shared with the B, CLA and GLA. It's only a few years old and still looking quite fresh, but a few updates have been planned in order to compete with the likes of Audi's popular A3 Sportback.

Our spy photographers stationed in chilly Sweden have just captured these detailed images of the A-Class' mid-life facelift ahead of what will most likely be a late 2015 debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

If you're staring at the photos, wondering what's different, know that it's not really your fault. Cosmetic changes will be very discrete, largely targeting the taillights and headlights, adding LED High Performance headlamps technology.

Inside, changes will include the availability of a bigger 8-inch tablet-style display, more trim choices and standard keyless entry and start.

This particular prototype has the star grille with a single horizontal bar, so it's likely been fitted with a Sport body kit, but it's definitely not an AMG Sport model, since the exhaust isn't showing at all. That's usually something you see on base models, like the 160 or 180 CDI.

Speaking of engines, we have to look at the engine range, which will likely stay completely unchanged. The only major difference is the models will be called differently, as part of the new Mercedes strategy. Diesel engines, which are now labeled as "CDI", will have a "d" at the end. So for instance a top-spec model will be called A 220 d 4Matic.

The A-Class facelift is scheduled to hit dealerships across Europe in October 2015. Stay tuned for more information.
