It seems like the new 3-door MINI Cooper won’t be the only new model from the British company next year. Their new platform, dubbed UKL, will spawn numerous models though, both in the Oxford-based camp and in the German one.
Apart from the new 3-door hatch that we’ll be seeing unveiled next week, there’s also a 5-door version in the works, an MPV and a couple BMWs, all of them using the same engines, platform and transmissions.
What we have in today’s spyshots is the 5-door version, with a little less camouflage. Also, what we can also make out here is the longer wheelbase and similar shapes around the front and the rear of the car.
That means that this model will be simply the same as the 3-door hatch but with two extra doors. As simple as that. According to Oxford officials, the new version will be added to the mix just because some customers asked for it but we’re afraid it will take some of that MINI spirit away.
Furthermore, at the moment, we don’t know if the new car will have a new name too or if it will be simply a 5-door MINI Cooper. As for the launch date, expect it somewhere towards the middle of 2014.
